Local man found speeding under the influence
On the 25th of February, a local man, Mr Brady was fined and had his driving license suspended for12 months after speeding whilst under the influence on Oxford Road on Tuesday 31st of August last year
in the early hours of the morning.
After a night of celebration having found a new job, Brady was stopped on his way home during a national
pandemic.
When stopped, he was tested for illegal substances in his system and was found to have taken a
derivative of the Class A drug, cocaine. He had taken ‘800’ even though the legal amount is ‘50’.
At the hearing, Brady was initially sentenced to a £135 fine, a loss in his license plus court fees adding up
to £315 after pleading guilty to the charges set in front of him.
At the hearing, Brady was unrepresented, however, was able to prove his good character. He showed
evidence to prove he was an upstanding worker from his previous employer and did not have a history
of bad driving or consumption of illegal substances. He also demonstrated remorse for his actions, as
well as expressing that he has all intention of staying away from drugs by securing his new job.
This allowed the magistrate to lower the fees to £180.
Brady also expressed a need for his license as he was not able to travel to his new job as easily without it.
However, the magistrate decided to allow the 12-month suspension as he was driving irresponsibly.
