JPEGMAFIA- LP! (OFFLINE Version)

The much-anticipated extension to LP! is finally available on streaming platforms.

LP! (OFFLINE) was released onto all streaming platforms on February 24th of this year. With a tracklist of just 5 songs JPEGMAFIA, known to fans as Peggy, has managed to still keep listeners thoroughly engaged with his sampling ability in this EP.

There is not a drastic change to the overall tone of the offline version in comparison to the online one, however, the offline version scores higher in my books, and here is why!

Apart from having HAZARD DUTY PAY! on the tracklist, the gospel and RnB tracks sampled through the EP made for a phenomenal listening experience. that's not to say that

The ranking:

1) HAZARD DUTY PAY!

I always felt that when it came to sampling, especially gospel music, Kanye was the producer to beat. The memorable sounds of a church with the infusion of soul and RnB was something he had truly mastered and brought throughout Jesus is King, DONDA, and Saint Pablo. However, HAZARD DUTY PAY perfected the sound like I had never experienced.

The song starts off with the signature "you think you know me" as he begins singing the beginning of the chorus to Ain't No Need to Worry by The Winans featuring Anita Baker. He then switches the beat and layers his rap verse on top of the song.

This song had a clear focus on the sound rather than the lyrics- even though they were strong too- and the way he rapped would sound with the sample, beat and vocals.

The strong intro paired with his lyricism throughout the song made this song a 5/5

2) GOD DON'T LIKE UGLY!

The intro starts off with a short rhythmic gospel reciting and takes off with the rap. I really enjoyed the way he structured this as it put his vocals, lyrics and flow at the forefront of the song. his punchy rhymes and clever puns were supported and not overpowered by the sample or beat, and allowed to shine. This made the song a 4.5/5

3) DIKEMBE!

The song starts off with the classically organised chaos of Peggy's songs, which is very reminiscent of LP! This worked really well when listening to the finished tracklist and made for a more complete listening experience. this made the song a 3/5

4) UNTITLED

I really loved the rap and the beat. The lyrics were so clever and it matched really well with LP! in terms of the order 3/5

5) 100EMOJI!

This was a listening experience that focused mostly on Peggy's clever production and clever mixing skills and I thought it was very enjoyable 3/5
